Student Leadership for 2022

On Monday 18 October the Grade five students began preparing for their leadership roles in 2022. The Grade 5 with Mr Dome, Miss Hanson, Mrs Meldrum and Mr Woodard spent the morning in the JMC looking at the question of What is a Leader?

From this question we identified, discussed, and reflected upon the qualities that make up leadership. We talked about these qualities being concepts as their understanding of these will change over time. We wrote definitions and discussed with others, we identified positive leaders in our lives and which concepts enabled them to be such great leaders and we looked at quotes about leadership which may have challenged our original ideas of what a leader is.

The Grade 5 will be attending a session at PCYC on the 12 November where they will be able to put these leadership concepts into practice whilst working with others to solve challenges.

Students are also in the process of thinking about the roles they would like to nominate for in 2022 and write their speeches for these roles. The speeches and voting day will be held on Thursday 18 November.

This year we will be making a slight change to the way our leaders are selected. There will be a nomination and voting (students and staff) for the 10 Student Representative Council (SRC) and 6 House Captains roles. Once these roles have been formalised, students who are not elected to the SRC or House Captains positions will be able to nominate for the Library Leader or Sustainability Leader roles and staff will then be selecting students for these roles.
