Principal's Report
Welcome to Week 5 of Term 2! It’s hard to believe how quickly our term is flying by and how much students have achieved in such a short space of time. While this is only my 15th week at Burnie Primary School I have felt so welcome here and it seems like I’ve been here forever. I have enjoyed getting to know your children and being part of the positive learning culture that is embraced here at BPS. Please feel free to introduce yourself if you see me around the school.
Well done to all Year 3 and 5 students who successfully completed NAPLAN. It was great to hear the students reflect on the assessments and identify positives from the experience. While NAPLAN can sometimes evoke feelings of nervousness or worry, it was wonderful to hear so many students present with a growth mindset when asked about how they were feeling. We look forward to sharing our school wide results with parents later in the year.
Years 3-6 Cross Country was run during PE and Music lessons last week, with all students particpating and supporting each other. Congratulations to students for doing their best, and to those who were selected to particpate in the NW Interschool Cross Country Team representing Burnie Primary School. Thanks to Mr Dome and Miss Matthews for their organistion in running this event.
As the weather gets colder, it’s been lovely to see more BPS beanies popping up around our school. I love how much pride BPS takes in their school uniform! Remember to pack school jumpers and jackets to keep students warm when outside this term, and to name all items of clothing clearly to ensure they find their way back to their owners when they get lost.
Mid Year reports - Reports for term 2 will look slightly different to previous years, as previously communicated with you through our newsletter. Term 2 reports will not contain written comments, instead students will receive an assessment against the 9pt scale and an assessment for effort and behaviour. In place of written comments, parents will be provided with an opportunity to discuss their child’s progress with the classroom teacher.

Parent Teacher conversations will be held from Monday 20 – Thursday 23 June. These can be held face to face or over the phone. Our online booking system (SOBS) will be open from the end of this week to allow parents to book a preferred time to come in. Each conversation will be 10mins in length and will focus on evidence of learning that were used in assessing your child’s progress. If you require additional time to speak with your child’s teacher, please contact the teacher through the office, or directly via Seesaw to request additional time. Please contact the office if you require assistance in booking your parent teacher conversation.
To access SOBS from Monday 6 June 2022 from 9am

If your child is in a shared teacher class - PSJ, 1CM or 3HN, there will only be one teacher listed for that class, however both teachers will be attendance for most appointments.
Reports will be available for collection from the office 10mins prior to parent teacher conversations. This will provide time for parents and students to look at the report before speaking to the teacher, who will then provide further information about the change in reporting structure. We encourage all parents to attend to have a conversation about their child’s report and to look at some evidence of learning with the teacher. Three-way conversations between teachers, parents and students in years 3 to 6, are encouraged. Any parents who are unable to attend will receive a phone call and reports will be mailed home on Monday 28 June.
