2022 Cross Country - Grade 3 - 6
Our Cross Country was held over Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 May 2022. It was fantastic to see such a high participation rate amongst our students. This is a challenging event with our students tackling the tough run with courage and aspiration, using the Learning Asset of a Self-Manager to keep going when they were puffed and tired.
Whilst we had practiced during PE time, there were a lot of nervous and excited students leading up to the race. During PE practice time we talked about fitness and what can make us fit including walking, jogging, playing sports, riding a bike and skipping. We also practiced pacing ourselves during long races which is a difficult skill to master.
We had many awesome efforts during the races however there were two highlights for me; as Dylan crossed the finishing line in the Grade 4 boys race looking tired he turned to me and said “I think I did better than last week, I am improving” and during the Grade 3 boys race there were three boys running together at the front, William fell over and his friends Zarin and Kaden both stopped, went back and helped him up and only when they knew William was up and ok did they begin racing again!!!! These are great to see, as the message in PE is all about improving our abilities and being good collaborators and treating others with respect.
On Wednesday June 8 we will be sending a team to participate in the NW Cross Country Championships. The day will be held in two parts from 10am -12pm the Grade 3’s and 4’s accompanied by Mrs Hyland and from 12pm to 2pm the Grade 5’s and 6’s accompanied by Mr Dome.
