Basketball Tasmania Championships
On Saturday 29th and Sunday the 30th of October a selection of students from Burnie Primary across grades 3-6 participated in the Basketball Tasmania Championships, held at stadiums in Devonport and Latrobe. All four of our teams put in their best efforts on both days, with students demonstrating respect towards one another and sportsmanship towards their competitors in all games. Their positive attitudes made the weekend enjoyable for parents and carers, players, coaches, and referees.
Our teams went from strength to strength showing growth as a team as the weekend progressed, with all teams proving to be strong competitors within their divisions. Some highlights included: The 3/4 girls’ game on Sunday against Stella Maris, it was a close game and ended in a 12 all draw. The 3/4 boys having everyone on the edge of their seats all weekend with most games being close. The senior girls having a close game against Penguin District School and the senior boys holding on to win by 10 points against Our Lady of Lourdes. All the students who participated should be very proud, with all students giving their best effort across the entire weekend.
I would like to thank all the students who participated in the Basketball Championships and their parents for travelling to Devonport and Latrobe to support their children and our teams. I would also like to thank the parents, staff and siblings who coached, referee-ed, and helped on the scoring bench across the weekend, and prior with organised training sessions for the teams. From this weekend a number of our teams have been selected to participate in the Launceston Championships in early December, Congratulations and best of luck at this competition.
Please return your basketball tops to the office.
