Community Connections
Term 3 will see the beginning of some Community Connection programs at Burnie Primary School. As part of their Community Access Program, six students from the North-West Support School will buddy up with the Year 5 classes on a fortnightly basis. These students will be helping us out by doing some small jobs around our school and then will be building social skills by playing some games with the Year 5s.
In week 4, during the Science Expo, some residents from Umina Park will be joining the Year 4 students to begin a buddy program. This will continue throughout the year allowing our students to develop relationships through playing cards, reading books, engaging with technology, crafts etc.
We will also have some Milpara students joining in on the Science fun during National Science Week. They will be exploring the Science Expo engaging in the activities that will be provided by each class.
Students will have multiple opportunities to learn from and engage with their community, being exposed to a range of careers. Employers, industry, and the broader community are an asset to schools to help students understand their community, the world of work, future opportunities, and pathways.
We welcome our Community Connections into Burnie Primary and look forward to working alongside you.
