Principal's Report
I have been so proud and privileged to be part of the student learning and achievements this term! Great students taught by talented and dedicated teachers with strong support from you as parents and carers. This is the perfect recipe for student success!
This term teachers have been spending countless hours preparing student reports ready to go home on Friday 28th June. The reports will go home on the week before Parent/Teacher discussions so that you have an opportunity to read the report and come prepared to have a quality discussion with your child’s teacher about their learning. We are hoping that this approach will allow those parents and carers who can’t make it to these discussions during Parent / Teacher week, to still have an input into them. Teachers really value the opportunity to continue the conversation about your children’s learning. We have made extended times available during the last week of term to accommodate parents. We are aiming to have discussions for 100% of the students here at Burnie Primary School. If you are unable to make it during Parent/Teacher week then I encourage you to make a mutually agreeable alternative with your child’s teacher.
Best Effort is one of the expectations we have of learners at Burnie Primary School. That was certainly exemplified in the efforts of all participants at the Cross Country carnival last week. The success of the day can be partly attributed to the training that every student received during their Daily PE time to allow students to learn more about their own abilities. From this, the Burnie Primary 3-6 Cross Country team was selected to represent Burnie Primary at the NWPSSA Cross Country Carnival in Ulverstone which was held yesterday in Ulverstone. The Burnie Primary School team finished 3rd in Division A which is a great achievement!
Last week, Burnie Primary School were recognised as leaders in our state, and Australia wide, with a team of film makers working with Burnie Primary School students and staff to produce a short film for the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA).
Burnie Primary School was proud to be chosen to be filmed as a primary school in Tasmania which meets the ‘critical and creative thinking’ component of the Australian Curriculum . We do this through our STEAM program which is aligned to our Burnie Primary School Improvement Plan 2017 – 2020. We expect our short film to be released on the ACARA website in a few weeks, but in the meantime, we decided to interview Danielle Cavanagh from ACARA about why Burnie Primary School was selected. Thanks to our hard hitting reporters Lottee Rolls and Georgie McGregor for the interview. Another example of Burnie Primary School as a collaborative, creative and innovative learning community!
