Principal's Report
It has been a privilege to be part of our Burnie Primary School community! Over the past two weeks I have witnessed the high level of parent and community involvement that sends a collective message to all students that we all really care about them and we want to see them learn and achieve at their true potential in a collaborative, creative and innovative learning community.
At Burnie Primary School we consider parents and carers as partners in their children’s learning. We also acknowledge the amazing learning opportunities you engage your children in before they start formal schooling in Kinder, and every day as they develop their creative and inquisitive minds. We used the Seesaw app last year as a communication tool to demonstrate and share the learning that your children are involved in here at school and give you as parents and carers a chance to reflect on this learning when they get home.
We have decided that we will continue to roll this app out to the whole school to enhance our partnership in learning in 2020.
Last Wednesday gave our school community a chance to get together at the Welcome BBQ. We had an excellent turnout, and it was really encouraging to see parents and carers having the opportunity to get together with their child’s class teachers, and to continue to foster the partnership that we know makes a difference in student learning. Thanks to all those parents and friends of the school who helped out on the night in so many different ways. We are always looking at ways of engaging parents in our school community and the P&F is a fantastic way of becoming involved!
The School Association and Parents and Friends are two groups that meet only once or twice a Term but provide valuable feedback, support and guidance as to how the school runs, and how our school community as a whole can support all students, and future students achieve to their ultimate potential here at Burnie Primary School.
I encourage as many parents and friends of the school to come along to the next open meeting on Thursday 26th March. The School Association Meeting will start at 6pm and the Parents and Friends at 7pm. You are welcome to both and we are also in need of some parents and community members to be part of our committee.
Please consider taking on a position either on the P&F or School Association. It is a valuable learning experience for you as parents or community members in having a say in how we can make Burnie Primary School the best possible place to learn! Nomination forms are included in this week’s newsletter. Nominate yourself or someone you know who would be great in this role on our School Association.
I am writing this newsletter piece in anticipation of weather that will be fine enough for us to run our school Athletics Carnival on Thursday 5th March (backup day Monday 9th March). The Athletics Carnival provides an opportunity for all students to do your best, have fun and enjoy a day on the oval as a school! It will also provide us with an opportunity to select our Athletics team for Grade 3 – 6 students to represent Burnie Primary School in the NWPSSA Athletics Carnival on Wednesday 11th March.
