Principal's Report
At Burnie Primary School, we have high expectations for all learners in our school community. These are;
We are always looking at ways of ensuring all learners in our school community, students and adults, apply their best efforts, are positive and safe. We know and the research tells us that when students are positive and feel safe at school, they can learn at their true potential. One way that helps us monitor this for Grades 4-6 students is through the Student Wellbeing Survey. This data will help inform our practice within the school but also at a system level, and recognises the important personal and social capabilities that we develop in students to allow them to learn at their true potential.
The Department of Education has taken a conservative approach to the lifting of restrictions during these present times. We thank you as our school community for your cooperation in abiding to our restrictions here at school. We are able to ensure that all guidelines are covered here at school with regard to hand hygiene, extra cleaning of high touch surfaces and the distancing for staff on site. It’s been pleasing that we are able to now run school events such as our Cross Country runs that have happened this week during PE times. We are then able to select a Burnie Primary School team to compete in the NWPSSA Cross Country Carnival in Ulverstone on Thursday, 10 September. Unfortunately, only school staff can enter the venue with no spectators allowed, and we have been required to run our event here at school with the same rules. We are, though, starting to see some further easing of restrictions on our school site for parents. Our Launching into Learning program has recommenced on Friday morning with parents/carers providing information and sign in, and the numbers capped in accordance with the venue density. Please contact our school office if you would like further information or would like to book a place in this valuable program. As we move forward we look forward to seeing parent help and other parent interactions within our school, but it will need to be managed carefully and we will provide you with further information as it comes to hand.
