Principal's Report

This year marks the start of our new Burnie Primary School Strategic Plan 2021-22. Underpinning this plan has been the adoption of our Department of Education Values.

We have been working with staff and students reflecting on how we can bring these values to life here at Burnie Primary School and how they are linked to our School Expectations of:

I have been thrilled to see the number of parents and carers that have made to time to book and participate in our Parent – Teacher discussions this week. We do value the partnership we have with you in your child’s learning and having the opportunity to develop the relationship and start the conversation about learning sets us up for achievement and growth. We ask that you continue this conversation and communication throughout the year and to continue to use the SeeSaw app as a platform for communication, or as always, make an appointment with your child’s teacher at a mutually convenient time.

Another way you as Parents or Carers of students here at Burnie Primary School can contribute to our School Community is to nominate for a position on our School Association. Please consider either yourself of someone you know in our School Community to nominate for this two-year term. Details can be found in today’s newsletter.

Last week we commissioned a Tree Audit of all trees within our boundaries. Unfortunately, a number of trees on the bank of the oval have been assessed as being at risk, and as a result we have decided in the best interests of safety, to close  the oval to the school and public until we can have the trees removed. Plans are also underway to remediate the bank to alleviate the significant impact the removal of these trees will have on our landscape. This may pose problems for events such as our Athletics Carnival that we may have to reschedule to a bit later in the year.

As mentioned in the last newsletter, I am due to take up a new statewide position within the Department of Education effective from March 1 to the end of the year. We expect to be able to announce who the new acting Principal for the rest of 2021 will be on Monday 22 February. As this will be my last newsletter for the year, I wish all within our School Community the best.  I am grateful and fortunate to be a part of such a special school as Burnie Primary School.  Thank you for demonstrating such commitment and care for your child and each other.
