NWPSSA Cross Country Results
On Wednesday, 2 June a group of 20 Burnie Primary students travelled to the Ulverstone Football Ground to participate in the Inter Primary Cross Country. This was an event where primary schools from the North West Coast came together to compete in running.
Due to COVID-19 the event was split up into 2 sections. Grade 3 and 4s in the morning and Grade 5 and 6s in the afternoon. The grade 3 and 4s departed Burnie Primary at 9:15am, with Mrs Fidler, to arrive in time for the Grade 4 boys' race. The boys did an excellent job as did the Grade 4 girls. The Grade 3 events were very exciting also. Both Grades did an excellent job, and after everyone’s great run, Burnie Primary was sitting in second position to Penguin Districts School in Division A.
The grade 5 and 6 runners left with Mrs Cunningham at 11.15am for the afternoon session. First up were the Grade 5 Boys who did exceptionally well leading up to the Grade 5 Girls who also did great. The Grade 6 Boys ran a fantastic race, leaving the Grade 6 Girls to finish it off strongly for the day. Everyone was a great sport and was very encouraging to one another.
Burnie Primary were getting very nervous and excited about the team results. It was down to the last 3 schools, we were very happy with our effort of being top 3, but we were still in the running for first place. When third and second were called out and it wasn’t us, we knew we had won. We were all extremely proud and happy of our efforts and came back to school with big smiles on our faces.
The whole of the Burnie Primary had a great team effort. There were also some great individual results, where the following students finished in the Top 10 in their respective Grade groups:
- Grade 3 Boys- 1st Sashan S, 5th Louis S;
- Grade 3 girls- 10th Lucy R;
- Grade 4 girls – 1st Indigo N;
- Grade 6 boys- 4th Nash A, 9th Joshua B;
- Grade 6 girls- 3rd Amarli P;
