Dear families, students and friends,
We find ourselves almost at the end of a very busy first Term! Term 1 has been filled with learning, laughter, many special events, carnivals and celebrations. Last Thursday afternoon, we welcomed our learning community to our end of term celebration assembly, hosted by our student leaders with our primary classes sharing. It was fantastic to see a large number of our families and community members join us at this event. Our sharing assemblies are held on Thursday afternoons during week 5 and week 9 of each term from 1.30 pm. Please save these dates and join us for these special celebrations.
ANZAC Day
This year, ANZAC day falls in the second week of the school holidays on Thursday 25th April. If your child is interested in representing Burnie Primary School and marching in the service, please meet Mrs Rawlings and Miss Smith with our Student Representative Council members at the Target carpark at 10.20am. The march will leave from the Burnie Ex-Servicemen’s Club at 10.40am arriving at the Cenotaph for the service at 11.00am.
Students can be collected from Mrs Rawlings and Miss Smith at the West Park Grove gate on completion of the service.
Full school uniform is required to be worn on the day.
Breakfast Club
We have had a successful re-launch of our Monday and Thursday morning Breakfast Club. If you are able to volunteer time to support our Breakfast Club to run in Term 2, please come and see us at the office.
Farewell to Students
In this edition we farewell Alisha and Manahil and wish them well as they move interstate.
This is our last newsletter before the term break. I wish all families a safe, restful and enjoyable holiday break. I hope you each have time to celebrate the break and have some fun with the people you love.
Term 2 resumes for students on Monday the 29th of April. We look forward to seeing you then!
In partnership,
Susan Barnard
In recent months, we have had three of our amazing teachers gain full registration with the Teachers Registration Board. Full registration is achieved when a teacher has met the proficient career stage of the Australian Professional Standards for teachers and all other requirements for teacher registration. Congratulations to Christina Cohen, Jana Kalweit and Kendall Sandman. We are incredibly proud of this achievement!
We have had a very busy first term at school in Kinder! We have settled into all of our new classroom routines, made lots of new friends and have even started exploring the “big” part of the school when we go to the library, PE with Miss G and to music with Mrs Matthews. We have been working on independently writing our names and have discussed our school value of “Respect”. We are learning a new rhyme each week which is helping us build our oral language and our ability to recognise rhyme. We can’t wait for more fun and learning in Term 2!
Celebrating the Value of Respect
This fortnight we have zoomed in on our Value of Respect: Caring for our environment.
Congratulations to our token recipients for this fortnight. If your child has received a token this term I wonder if they can tell you why?
Next term our focus value will be Responsibility.

This term, teachers at BPS have been completing online modules on teaching reading. This is part of the statewide initiative on consistent teaching and learning of reading to lift our literacy rates across the state. One module is on the ‘Big 6’. Recently, teachers designed posters targeting each of the components and then aligned each component to the Australian Curriculum year level Achievement Standards.

The Parents & Friends Association were overwhelmed with the support of the recent Easter raffle and we can not thank you all enough. We made an incredible $722.00 in raffle ticket sales! An amazing effort. Attached are some photos of some our lucky winners, Torben Jensen, Clint Marshall and Olivia J. Congratulations to our lucky winners.
Please keep an eye out for our call of support for our Mother’s Day Raffle which will be ready in Term 2.
These fund raisers could not be possible without the help of our volunteers, and we thank you!
Volunteering for these fundraisers is a lot of fun, so if you like to have fun, please keep an eye out for our future fundraising efforts. We often need volunteers and you can contact us by following our P&F Facebook page. You can scan the QR code to join.
