Welcome back everyone to Term 3 and our school’s ongoing dedicated focus to ensure every learner is thriving. Thank you to all families for your daily support of students wearing their school uniform – the children all look ‘smart, respectful and ready for learning and at their best’ to start this term.
I am absolutely delighted to announce that I have been appointed to Burnie Primary School to continue in the Principal role through to the end of the year. It is fantastic to be able to provide some stability to our community. I look forward to continuing our important work together. This term is set to be a productive one so please take a moment to review the updated ‘Important Dates To Remember’ below and add these to your calendar. We look forward to connecting with our community through Book Week, Science Week, Bullying No Way Day and Lift opportunities (Bug Hotels and open classrooms).
At Burnie Primary School we strive to achieve the Department for Education Children and Young People's COMMITMENT: where every child and young person is: known, heard and included; safe in all environments; well and thriving and learning more every day.
School Times
Burnie Primary school hours are from 8.30 am through to 2.45 pm. It is important that parents do not bring children to school before school hours because there is no supervision of students at that time. Similarly, it is important parents either collect their children at the end of the school day or arrange for them to catch the bus home/make other collection arrangements so that students are not left unsupervised at the end of the school day. Unsupervised students may engage in dangerous play or put themselves in dangerous locations such as car parks being used by buses and cars during school drop off/pick up. Parents are responsible for their child outside school hours unless they have accessed school-based childcare during these times.
Once again this term we connect our strongly established school expectations of Best Effort, Positive and Safe with our Department’s Values. Our Department’s values are:
This term, our fortnightly meeting will focus on the value of Growth. Congratulations to all students who display this value in their school and home life. Class teachers will be awarding certificates to children they see ‘living the value’ in the coming weeks.

In grade 1, we have been learning all about the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics.
We had a special guest (Mrs Rawlings) come in and talk to us about her trip to France last year.
We also discovered that the Eiffel Tower has the nickname of the “Iron Lady”.
We tried some French cuisine- Baguettes, Croissants and Macarons. Some were a bigger hit than others, however we were glad that we did not get offered to try Escargot!
We examined the qualities it takes to be an Olympic Athlete and related these to our school values of courage and growth. We talked about the training schedule of our Athletes and their level of commitment in order to make the team.
We listened to the stories of Paralympic Athletes. We discussed the accommodations made in some sports to support these Athletes to be successful (such as a guide during sprints for visually impaired athletes).
We have been cheering on our Australian Athletes whenever we get the chance!
Save the Date - Open Classrooms
Please join us to celebrate the wonderful work our students have been doing in class on Friday the 30th of August, 1:30pm - 2:30pm.

The focus of our Open Classrooms afternoon in for family members and carers to engage in their child's learning so that they can better support learning at home. Students will be bringing home a special invitation soon and we are asking that all family members/carers who wish to attend this afternoon RSVP via the QR code on the invitation. A huge shout out to our volunteers who helped organise and run the BBQ at the Auskick/Superkick Kid’s vs Dads Day on Sunday 28th July. It was wonderful to hear of the success of this fundraiser. A big thank you also to Burnie Auskick/Superkick who donated the gas bottle for the BBQ. Check out their photo!
The P&F have had a long-standing fundraising campaign with the Entertainment Book. For 27 years, Entertainment has created a local community with its membership program by brining together members, fundraisers and merchants that no one else can. Fundraising is at the heart of who they are, and they love the opportunity to help their fundraising partners make a difference. Their merchants offer incredible offers and experiences, and their members embrace the opportunity to get great offers. Up to 20% of a membership sale can be allocated to us, Burnie Primary School, it just needs to be selected during the purchase process. Entertainment is currently running an amazing offer, well worth a look. You can follow the link Welcome to Entertainment!, or Google Entertainment Book.
Soon we will be sourcing donations for our Father’s Day raffle.
