Welcome to the final edition of our newsletter for Term 3. This term has been full of learning experiences along with plenty of student engagement in our off-site activities recently. Year 5/6 camp held this week was an amazing opportunity for students to learn about others and themselves at Camp Clayton. Our thanks goes out to Mrs Rawlings, Mrs Smith, Mr Woodard, Miss Miller, Miss Smith, Mrs Cohen, Mrs Nayler and Mrs Schleich, along with our volunteers Mr Stretton, Mrs Duncan and Mr Sanderson for their time to provide this opportunity for our Year 5/6 students. This week sees the second week of our Kinder – Grade 2 Early Years Water Orientation program. It has been so pleasing to witness the learning happening at the pool and developing skills in the water environment. A big thank you to our families for your support during this time, it is no easy task washing towels and bathers' every night for a week!
We wish all students and families a happy and safe holiday and look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Monday 14 October.
Staffing Update
This term we say farewell to Mrs Christina Schleich. We Thank Christina for her contribution to our school community over the past 2 terms. We wish her all the best in her new role with the Lifting Literacy Team.
Celebrating the value of growth
Our teachers aim to engage every student every day in their learning. This requires careful planning for individual students' success and achievement. Teachers at Burnie Primary School take care and pride in student learning. We have certainly had many opportunities to celebrate these achievements in learning this term with the introduction of our fortnightly values meetings. I am certain that many of you have a growth token on your fridge to celebrate your child’s hard work this term.
Celebrating learning, growth and achievement
In our assembly last week Miss Geard our PE teacher made a special announcement to students. We are excited to announce to the Burnie Primary School Community that in term 4 we are meeting an Australian Olympian! Miss Geard entered a competition and has won us a visit from someone who has recently returned from the Olympic Games in Paris.
This person is Olympic Champion MOLLIE O’CALLAGHAN!
This opportunity has been sponsored by Macquarie Sport, who are an organisation celebrating 25 years of providing opportunities to children in Australia to participate in sport, to be inspired and motivated by interacting with sporting role models, and providing grants for sporting organisations and schools to run sporting programs and help children pursue sporting careers. When she visits, she is also presenting some new sporting equipment to our school that is part of the prize.
Mollie competed in her first Olympic Games in Tokyo 2021 and won 3 medals 2 bronze and a gold. This year in Paris she won 1 Bronze, 1 Silver and 3 Gold Medals.

A big thank you to Mark Jenson for kindly donating the metal seats in our outside undercover area. These new additions have provided a much-needed dry waiting area at the end of the day!
What a busy and exciting Term 3 we have had in Kinder! In the first few weeks of term we enjoyed developing our basketball skills during PE lessons with Mr Knight and during Science Week we learned all about bees and why they are so important. We were lucky enough to have a visit from Mrs Groenwege’s daughter’s baby goats during Week 5 and had a great time dressing up as our favourite characters to celebrate Book Week. We are finishing off Weeks 9 and 10 spending some time at the Burnie Aquatic Centre developing our skills at Water Awareness. We are looking forward to a busy final term in Kinder after the holidays!
Thank you again to our P&F who organised tomorow’s Pizza Day. We know many, many students are looking forward to a tasty pizza lunch and we greatly appreciate the help of our volunteers.
Planning is underway for next year, with a focus on our class structure and staffing arrangements. DECYP will announce transfer details for permanent teachers this week. Please help us to have accurate numbers for our forward planning by contacting us if your enrolment at BPS will change for 2025. We want to hear from families who may be moving to another place as well as families who are new to our school area and intend to enrol. If you have additional information about your child’s learning needs and/or success, which is unknown to the school, please contact me in writing about class placement for next year. Please note requests for individual teachers cannot be considered.
Dear Parents and Friends,
We thank you for your support this term. It has certainly been a huge one with the Trivia Night, Father’s Day Raffle and Pizza lunch. We are very grateful for the continued support our school community gives.
We will have our last meeting for the year early next term, keep an eye out for the confirmed date via our social media page.
The P&F have had a long-standing fundraising campaign with the Entertainment Book. For 27 years, Entertainment has created a local community with its membership program by bringing together members, fundraisers and merchants that no one else can. Fundraising is at the heart of who they are, and they love the opportunity to help their fundraising partners make a difference. Their merchants offer incredible offers and experiences, and their members embrace the opportunity to get great offers. Up to 20% of a membership sale can be allocated to us, Burnie Primary School, it just needs to be selected during the purchase process. Entertainment is currently running an amazing offer, well worth a look. You can follow the link here, or Google Entertainment Book.
