The Term break signifies the half way mark in our school year and provides a perfect time to reflect on the learning we have achieved so far this year as a collaborative, creative and innovative learning community. The achievements we have made in learning, under duress at times, especially during the beginning of this term have demonstrated our resilience and courage as a learning community, and the break will give us all the opportunity to rest and recharge the batteries ready for a big second half of the school year.
Next term, we will continue with the same arrangements for pick up and drop off of students, with parents and carers remaining outside the building. We will also keep up our increased cleaning in and around the school, and our strict handwashing routines. Please ensure when you are picking up and dropping off students that you keep the 1.5m distance to abide by public health guidelines. We will see some relaxation of our restrictions here at school with our ‘Launching into Learning’ program resuming next term. There will be a booking system in place and 1.5m distancing rules apply. For any adult who needs to enter our building (which includes contractors and other DoE staff), they are required to fill out a ‘Visitor Health Screening Form’ and all our Launching into Learning adults will be required to fill out this form as well. We will continue to monitor the easing of restrictions throughout Term 3.
We held our AGM for our School Association last week and congratulations to; Stacey Wilson - Chairperson, Emma Baker - Deputy Chairperson, Brendon Hyland - Treasurer, and Rachel Johnson - Secretary. The P & F are a sub-committee of our School Association and our parent representatives will be co-ordinating opportunities for P & F to meet in Term 3.
Mrs Larissa Best will be returning to Newcastle to relocate and reunite with her boys in the coming days. We thank Larissa for her dedication to the BPS community over a number of years and wish her well in her new (and previous) home state. As a result of this change, the following staffing changes have been made. The leadership roles revert to Term 1 status with Mrs Liz Fidler taking on the role of Literacy Coach and co-teaching on Grade 3 with Miss Stephanie Hanson. Mrs Bronwyn McDougall will take on Flying Start in Grade 2, and Mrs Olivia Meldrum will begin her first contract at Burnie Primary School, taking on the Grade 4 J co-teaching with Mr Ben Johnstone for 2 days and with 5H on a Friday.
I would like to wish everyone in our school community a happy and safe term break. A reminder that Monday 20th July is a Student Free Professional Learning Day, and we welcome all students back to school on Tuesday 21st July.

All participants are required to book in each week by calling the Burnie Primary School office on 6433 3655. Bookings must be done by 4pm each Thursday. Due to physical distancing requirements numbers will be capped for sessions and only those participants who have booked in will be able to attend.
The session starts at 9.15am but parents who are dropping off older children are welcome to come to the music room from 9am.
There will be a screening process to complete on arrival, which will include the following questions:
- Have you returned from overseas within the last 14 days?
- Have you or anyone in your household been asked to self-isolate or quarentine in the last 14 days?
- Do you have symptoms of an influenza-like illness including fever OR symptoms of acute respiratory infection? (e.g. shortness of breath, cough, sore throat)?
- Have you been in close contact with a confirmed case of Covid-19 (either in the community or at work) OR with someone awaiting the results of Covid-19 testing within the past 14 days?
If you answer yes to any of the screening questions you will be unable to enter the school site. We ask that if you or your child are unwell that you please stay home.
We hope all of our Burnie Primary School Launching into Learning families are keeping safe and we look forward to seeing you in Term 3!

Burnie Primary Lego Exhibition
This week we have held an exhibition of lego creations made by students from Kinder to Grade 6. Students were provided with the instructions to Free Build their creations. A condition of the exhibition was that students were not to simply build a pre-designed kit straight from the box. Alternatively, they were to use their imagination and use their lego to create an original design.
We have received around 80 creations to exhibit and students from all classes were able to have a walk through to view the exhibition during the week. Students from grades 3 to 6 entered into a voting process where they were able to identify their favourite creation from Kinder to Grade 2 and Grade 3 to Grade 6 in both the team and individual build sections.
All students who entered the exhibition did an amazing job. We are looking forward to the 2021 exhibition being even bigger and having the opportunity for the community to be able to come and view all of the creations.
We have been advised the Issue 4 orders will not be delivered to school until atleast Week 1 of Term 3, due to warehouse and freight constraints.
We have a number of students that have overdue library books from Term 1. Please check at home to see if you have any books from our library and return them at your nearest convenience.
