2018 has been a big year for Burnie Primary School. We are one of the oldest schools in Australia yet we are still at the cutting edge of education and innovations in education. Not only have our results in indicators such as NAPLAN remained as strong as others throughout Tasmania and Australia, but our growth in student achievement sees students in most Grades over 90% of medium-high growth in their learning.
We continue to excel in our sporting achievements. Both our Athletics and Cross Country Teams were runners up in Division A, at this year’s North-west Carnivals.
We have been highly successful in Basketball, Netball and Cricket, our teams showing they are among the best in the State.
Our Arts and performing Arts programs continue to grow with 14 students successful in EMUsicians, choir and a music program that will be expanded next year.
Our STEAM programs have been recognized as Leaders across the State, and we will continue to grow and embed these critical and creative thinking capabilities in 2019.
In 2019 Burnie Primary School will introduce the RULER program from Yale University, that will help ensure BPS students have the personal and social capabilities to learn at their absolute potential.
Next year sees us ahead of schedule into our 4 year School Improvement Plan to achieve our vision of a collaborative, creative and innovative learning community.
A school is only as good as the people in it. BPS is fortunate to have amazingly talented educators and support teams. I acknowledge and thank them for their dedication to your child’s learning.
