Thank-you to all in our Burnie Primary School community for supporting us in adhering to the current restrictions that are in place for schools for this term. The Department of Education has recently released our COVID-safe schools plan (Weeks 6 – 10). Further information can be found at COVID-safe-schools-plan-Weeks-6-10-overview.pdf (education.tas.gov.au). These restrictions have been put in place by Public Health to help limit the interactions of adults and students across grades to help lessen the possibility of positive cases throughout the school and to minimise the impact this may have on student learning. We are looking forward to welcoming back programs such as our Launching into Learning programs that bring our school community together.
One change that we can introduce from today is that masks are only mandated inside our school buildings. Masks are now not compulsory when outside on school grounds.
Yesterday we officially welcomed Ms Patti Page to Burnie Primary School on Grade 5P. We certainly have been fortunate to have Miss Meaghan Hosking teaching 5P in her absence and we look forward to seeing her take on other roles here at Burnie Primary, in the near future.
During weeks 6-10 of this Term, teachers will be in contact to have a conversation with you about your child’s learning progress and their application to learning and wellbeing. This may be a phone call, Teams meeting, or face to face meeting at a mutually agreeable time. We look forward to continuing this conversation about your child’s learning throughout the year.
We value parent input into our school community here at Burnie Primary School. The School Association and Parents and Friends groups provide one way of being involved in the running of the school. Tuesday 22 March is the first meeting of these groups for the year. School Association starts at 6.00pm and P&F at 7.00pm. All are welcome to both meetings! Congratulations to Mathew Smart and Amina Keygan who are our new parent representatives on the School Association, and to Kendall Sandman and Georgette Moore who are our new Staff representatives. Our sincere thanks goes out to Stacey Wilson, who has contributed to the School Association as our outgoing President, and to Emma Baker and Clare Smith for their time on School Association.
You may have noticed we have revamped our pick up and drop off zone. We have extended it by one car spot that will now allow for two cars to pick up safely at the same time. We also have seen many adults walking students across the car park during these busy times. Can adults wanting to access the western side of our car park please use the Zebra Crossing on the southern side of car park.
A reminder to all that students are not to bring trading cards, toys or equipment from home to school. It certainly saves us valuable learning time.

Passenger Code of Conduct - Bus Services
The Department of State Growth (DSG) has released a Passenger Code of Conduct (the Code) for School Bus Services.
The Code sets out the expected standards of behaviour for students when using a bus.
It provides guidance and processes for bus operators and drivers to follow when a student breaches the Code, ensuring that all students, and breaches of the Code, are treated in a fair and consistent manner.
All operators of School Bus Services have adopted the Code as conditions of travel for the purposes of regulation 11 of the Passenger Transport Services Regulations 2013.
The Code has been developed by the Department of State Growth in consultation with the Tasmanian Bus Association (TasBus), the Department of Education, Catholic Education Tasmania and contracted school bus operators.
A shared understanding between all stakeholders of the expectations of students travelling on buses – and the consequences for any inappropriate behaviour – is essential for ensuring compliance with the Code.
School Principals are requested to distribute information about the Code to the school community before the end of the first semester 2022.
