This term, we have had the opportunity to reflect and refine our plans for the Burnie Primary School Strategic Plan 2021 – 2022. We reflected on our 2017-2020 Plan and where we would like to be at the same time in 2022. Understanding the learning needs for students as 21st century learners is essential for us as educators to plan for the attributes our learners will need to be lifelong learners. This certainly reinforced our vision for Burnie Primary School into the year 2022.
Collaborative, creative and innovative learning community.
This year we acknowledge the power of collaboration in learning in teams together. Most innovations come as a result of people collaborating together, in some cases with people from the other side of the world. 2021 will see a real focus on problem solving and the skills and attributes that we can learn to help in the problem-solving process. Again, this requires learners to be able to work collaboratively, but also with resilience to understand the importance of making and learning from mistakes. We want students to think deeply about concepts and design solutions to problems. Our focus on Inquiry will continue into 2021.
This year we have been excited at the depth of student understanding around concepts, and this sets us up for an empowering year in 2021 where we will be targeting student engagement to become connected, resilient, creative and curious thinkers. Some see creativity in the arts, but we will be acknowledging creative problem solvers in Maths, English and other curriculum areas and also socially in the playground, teaching students the social skills to be able to solve problems peacefully. Wellbeing will also form a goal for Burnie Primary School over the next two years.
We know that literacy and numeracy will continue to be essential for successful lifelong learners and they form one of our goals for the next two years. The Australian Curriculum guides what we teach in each grade but teachers and schools guide how it is taught and this will be a focus for quality teaching and whole school approaches to our teaching and learning.
As part of our planning for next year, it is important for us to make an accurate prediction of the numbers of students who will be attending Burnie Primary School next year. If you know that you will not be here or you know of families that will be moving into our area, can you please let us know as soon as possible so we can ensure that we cater for every single students’ success in 2021?

3-4 Girls Team |
On Saturday, 7 November 2020, Grade 3 and 4 girls competed in Devonport for the basketball championships. Our team consisted of Alicia, Chole, Milla, Sari, Ruby, Pippa, Inndii and Sienna. We played against Somerset Primary School first at 8:35am. We lost that game by 4 points. At 11:35am we then played against Our Lady of Lourdes. They were a very advanced team and we lost by a whole lot of points. The game was challenging. We only got around 12 points. At 5:35pm we played against Port Sorell Primary School and lost by around 5 points. It was a very close game. On Sunday, at 10:35am we played Table Cape Primary School. We lost by 10 points and it was very hard game. We had a fun weekend playing basketball! Ruby & Alicia |
3-4 Boys Team |
On the 7th and the 8th of November, the Grade 3-4 Boys Basketball team went to Devonport for The North West Basketball Championships. The team members were Johnty, Harry, Elijah, Cooper, Hudson, Lucas, and Max. On Saturday the draw for BPS was Table Cape Primary, East Ulverstone Primary and Spreyton Primary. We won all our games on Saturday which sent us straight through to the Grand Final on Sunday. The closest game was against East Ulverstone Primary which we won narrowly 30 to 29! After three games on Saturday, we were all very tired but excited to be in a Grand Final! For the Grand Final Burnie Primary played against Our Lady Of Lords. We won by 15 points the scores were 47- 32. After we won the Grand Final we felt sore, happy, excited and tired. Johnty & Harry |
5-6 Girls Team |
On the 7th and 8th of November Burnie’s Grade 5-6 girls participated in the North West Basketball tournament in Devonport. Our team was; Chastity, Brianna, Ava, Maddie, Parisa, Charlotte, Olivia, Addison, Indee and Mia. Our coach was Jason. We played 4 games. On Saturday we played against Miandetta Primary. We lost, but they were very tall. About 2 hours later, we played Table Cape Primary and we won by 15 points. On Sunday, we played against Somerset Primary, and they smashed us. They were good. Then we played against Table Cape Primary again and at the end, we were 1 behind. Then Chas did a full-court lay up in the last few seconds, and we won by 1 point. It was a good game. After that everyone was very tired, ready to go back home and rest. Brianna Coates |
5-6 Boys Team |
On the 7th and 8th of November, a group of Grade 5-6 boys went to Devonport to play school basketball. Our team consisted of Ryan D, Oliver R, Brooklyn H, Hayden K, Tobias J, Ryan D, Jiaming L, Bryce D, Nash A and our coach, Mr Dome and assistant coach Lewis R. On Saturday, our first game was against Penguin District School. We ended up losing by 10, but altogether a good game. After that, we had a game off and then played Devonport Christian School. We were playing well until half-time, but they were just a better team than us. We were playing great defence. We were just too small. If we were a bit taller, it would have been a breeze. On Sunday, we played Port Sorell Primary School in the morning and won. We all played well, and all scored in that game. In our 2nd game on Sunday, it was the semi-final and we didn’t play our best. We lost that game, so we played for 3rd and 4th. We played Our Lady Of Lourdes it was a tough game and we lost by 8. We were playing well until 5 mins to go but we just ran out of energy. That was our grade 5-6 basketball tournament on the weekend. Tobias Jordan |
