Grade 3-4 Girls Division 1
The 3-4 Girls have had a great weekend. The team consisted of Sari, Milla, Taylor, Storm, Harper, Layal, Hallie, Taylor and Maddie. We were lucky to have the last three girls from a different school join our team.
Our first game was against Port Sorell Primary and we won by about 40points. Our second game was against Somerset Primary, they were a very tough team. We lost by about 13 points.
The next day we played Table Cape Primary. We won by about 20 points and this qualified us for the semi-finals. In the semi-finals we played Stella Maris Primary and we won by 11 points. This automatically put us into the division 1 grand final. In the grand final we played Somerset Primary and we lost by about 10 points. We were runners up (2nd) and everyone got a medal and the School received a plaque.
After the game Mark Short our coach got us all a sundae from McDonalds.

Recap:- On the weekend the 3-4 Boys had the North West Basketball Championships it was really fun and a good experience. The people in our team were; Ryan, Elijah, Cooper, Bentley, Sashan, Louis, Lucas, Archie and Hudson. These guys all made great teammates and good friends.
There was one really funny moment when Louis's little brother Milo caught a pigeon when we were having lunch!
The teams we played were; Somerset, Table Cape, Spreyton and Stella Maris.
Whilst we all played very well as a team Hudson had some outstanding games scoring 23 points in one and 24 points in another. All our players scored over the weekend.
We made the grand final against Stella Maris, however they beat us by about 10 points. We still managed to qualify for the State Championships. Overall, it was a great weekend and we enjoyed it lots

Grade 5/6 Senior Boys - recap
Day 1:
From 23rd - 24th of October 2021 Burnie Primary took part in the North West Basketball Championships.
Our first game of the weekend was against our biggest rivals Stella Maris, it was a tight game with Stella scoring heaps on Burnie Primary with a couple of minutes on the clock Burnie were up by 4 points, but we still managed to pull the win off.
Our second game we faced off against OLOL which were much taller and stronger than Stella, around the end of the 1st quarter Burnie managed to get on a roll with a lead of 20 points, and our players scoring heaps of points. We ended the game with a win by 50 odd points.
Burnie Primary third game started off with a tap to Oli and 2 points against Penguin, Burnie were then hyped up and had awesome defence quickly into the game. Burnie got a few touches with the ball and were soon up by a blazing score of 20 points, at the end of the game we had a win, the final scores were Burnie 46 Penguin 19.
Day 2:
On day 2 we had a very early morning game at 8:50am against Port Sorell, It started off very slowly for Burnie but still managed to stick tight with them. At halftime we were only up by about 10 points, we were playing better offence than defence at the moment because we had a lot more fouls than they did. Another win under our belt, now we're off to the grand final, scores were Burnie 46 and Port Sorell 34.
We had a big 5-hour break in between games. In the grand final we were up against our rivals again (Stella Maris). We were up and about in the warmups, fired up about our game. Johnty gave Burnie a good start in tap against Stella, Ryan dribbled up the court and got an AND 1. At half time we were up by around 6 points, then at the start of the third quarter we started to get on a roll and get up again. At that point Stella gave up and Burnie had an easy win against Stella. The final scores were Burnie 55 Stella 23.
(we averaged 48.8 and the other teams averaged 28.8)
WE BROUGHT HOME THE GOLD!

Grade 5-6 Girls Basketball Report
On Saturday 23 October, the 5/6 girls competed in the North West Basketball Championships. The 5/6 girls didn’t do that well in the Tournament unfortunately. They lost three out of three games, but in their last game they started off leading but Circular-Head Primary took the lead at half time.
The first game on Saturday the 5/6 girls played Our Lady of Lords and unfortunately lost by a fair number of points. The second game of the day was against St Brigid’s Primary which was another hard game where the girls had to try hard. The last game was against Circular-Head Primary and at this point the girls had barely any energy left because they had tried hard in their first two games on the day.
Because the girls had lost three games out of three, they didn’t play again on Sunday...... they got to stay home.
Scores
Game 1: Our Lady of Lourdes 61-14 and Burnie Primary.
Game 2: St Brigid’s Primary 42-19 and Burnie Primary.
Game 3: Circular Head Primary 36-26 and Burnie Primary.
It was an enjoyable tournament, and it was great to see everyone do their best and enjoy the games. Well done to all the participants.

On Monday 18 October the Grade five students began preparing for their leadership roles in 2022. The Grade 5 with Mr Dome, Miss Hanson, Mrs Meldrum and Mr Woodard spent the morning in the JMC looking at the question of What is a Leader?
From this question we identified, discussed, and reflected upon the qualities that make up leadership. We talked about these qualities being concepts as their understanding of these will change over time. We wrote definitions and discussed with others, we identified positive leaders in our lives and which concepts enabled them to be such great leaders and we looked at quotes about leadership which may have challenged our original ideas of what a leader is.
The Grade 5 will be attending a session at PCYC on the 12 November where they will be able to put these leadership concepts into practice whilst working with others to solve challenges.
Students are also in the process of thinking about the roles they would like to nominate for in 2022 and write their speeches for these roles. The speeches and voting day will be held on Thursday 18 November.
This year we will be making a slight change to the way our leaders are selected. There will be a nomination and voting (students and staff) for the 10 Student Representative Council (SRC) and 6 House Captains roles. Once these roles have been formalised, students who are not elected to the SRC or House Captains positions will be able to nominate for the Library Leader or Sustainability Leader roles and staff will then be selecting students for these roles.
We are unfortunately needing to talk with students from numerous grades about inappropriate games in the playground based on the TV show Squid Games. Whilst it is parental choice to allow your child to watch a MA 15+ show it is negatively impacting on children’s play time whilst at school. We hope you can support us by talking with your child about games that are safe, respectful and appropriate for school.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact myself or Mr Woodard.
Sincerely,
Rochelle Cunningham
