Well, what a huge Term of learning!! This Term has just flown by, but as the old saying goes, ‘time flies when you’re having fun’. Fun and learning are integral components for student engagement. As teachers, we aim to engage every student every day in their learning. This requires careful planning for individual student success and achievement. Teachers here at Burnie Primary School take care and pride in student learning. We have certainly had many opportunities to celebrate these achievements in learning this term!
There has certainly been plenty of student engagement in our off site activities recently. Grade 6 Camp held earlier this week was an amazing opportunity for students to learn about others and themselves at Camp Clayton. Our thanks goes out to Mrs Smith, Mr Woodard and parents for giving up their time to provide this opportunity for our Grade 6 students and for giving them another great event that Burnie Primary School is able to offer. Grade 3’s also went on an excursion to Wings Wildlife Park and Preston Falls. They had plenty to share about their learning upon return.
This week sees the second week of our Kinder – Grade 2 Water Awareness program. It has been so pleasing to witness the learning happening at the pool, and developing skills in the water environment. When we talk about “lifelong learning”, this learning could one day save a life!
Burnie Primary School prides itself on the significant sporting achievements in a wide variety of sports that we are able to offer students. It has been just as pleasing to be able to acknowledge the significant achievements of Burnie Primary School students in the Maths Relay last weekend. Our team took away first place with an outstanding team achievement and demonstrated their brilliant problem solving abilities and collaboration. Our thanks go out to Teachers and Parents who have supported these extra – curricular activities throughout the year.
We are well and truly underway with our 2023 planning. If you know of any new students or students turning 5 next year to please contact the office as soon as possible to confirm their enrolment. Alternatively, if you know that your child will not be attending Burnie Primary School next year, we would appreciate the heads up to assist us with our planning.
Thanks to our school community for your understanding with the late start to the school day yesterday. Our teaching conditions are your child’s learning conditions and we certainly want the best for both.
I wish everyone well for the school holiday break starting tomorrow with the Burnie Show Public Holiday, and I look forward to catching up with students from Monday 17th October, to hear about the amazing learning opportunities they have been involved with over the school holiday break!

On Monday the 26th of September the grade 6’s went on their camp, to Camp Clayton. We left at 9:00am and arrived at about 9:30am. When we got there, we unpacked and set up our rooms, then we had some recess. At about 10:30 we went to our first activity which was either the rock wall, flying fox, giant swing, or team rescue. After we finished our rotations at 12:00pm we had lunch, then at 1:00pm we did our second rotation. After two hours we had afternoon tea, then at 5:00pm we had free time. Some options were the trampoline, gaga ball, mini golf, volleyball or just playing on the oval. At 5:30pm we had dinner. Due to bad weather, we couldn’t play spotlight, so we watched Despicable Me instead. We had a break and ate some party pies for supper. After the movie we went back to our cabins and went to bed.
In the morning at 6:30am people could choose to go on the beach and have a walk for an hour and a bit. The walk was very pretty and a great chance to get out in the fresh morning air. At 8:00am we packed up our cabins and had breakfast. Then at 9:30am we did our last activity for one and a half hours. At 11:00am we had some free time. After 2 hours we had lunch and after 45 minutes we packed up and left Camp Clayton.
Overall Camp Clayton was a great opportunity to socialise, develop teamwork skills and show resilience. Everyone had a great time and made lots of funny and happy memories. Camp Clayton was certainly a great place to reflect and celebrate our last year of Burnie Primary.

New changes to COVID-19 isolation
Public Health has recently changed the mandatory COVID-19 isolation period from seven days to five days.
This means COVID-19 cases can leave isolation, provided they:
- are no longer displaying symptoms on Day 5 of their isolation period, and
- have had no fever for 24 hours prior to Day 5.
People that leave isolation on or after Day 5 must wear a face mask in all settings for Days 5, 6 and 7 – even if they are not displaying symptoms. People are strongly recommended to wear a face mask indoors on Days 8, 9 and 10.
Students under the age of 12 and all primary school students are not required to wear face masks when leaving isolation.
To read more about this change, please visit the Tasmanian Government Coronavirus website.
For any COVID-19 enquiries, please contact the Tasmanian Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738, or Department of Education COVID-19 Support Hotline at COVID19support@education.tas.gov.au or on 1800 816 057.
