So, I would like to sincerely thank Mr Andrew Woodard for all his contributions to the leadership of the school and wider community. Mr Woodard has been instrumental in establishing the Makerspace and elevating STEAM and digital technologies into mainstream subjects. Grade 1 - exploring celebrations
Grade 1 have been exploring celebrations around the world. After discussing thanksgiving children told us the things that they are thankful for.
Here are some of their ideas:
I am thankful for my sister, my mum and my dad because they all help me. My sister plays with me and keeps me company. I am thankful for friends because they are nice to me and they play with me.
I am thankful for my school because it helps me learn.
I am thankful for the school that I go to because I get to play with my friends every day.
I am thankful for my food because my mum worked very hard to make it.
I am thankful for having a big house because I have my own room. I have a giant backyard, three bathrooms and four bedrooms.
I am thankful that Martin is born and that my mum and dad raised me because they give food to me and take care of me and Martin.
I am thankful for nan and pop because I get to go to Scamander for a holiday to see my nan and pop. I love them a lot.
I am thankful for Anne because she is nice.
I am thankful for Eylse because she is kind.
I am thankful for air because it helps us to breathe and if we didn’t have air we would not be alive.
I am thankful for being alive, if I wasn’t alive I wouldn’t be in this wonderful world.
Grade 3-4 Boys State Basketball Championships
On the 4th and 5th of December the Grade 3-4 boy’s basketball team of Cooper, Ryan, Hudson, Elijah, Louis, Sashan, Lucas, Archie and Bentley went to Launceston to represent Burnie Primary School in the State Championships.
We were all feeling very nervous and excited about the weekend. On Saturday we played two pool games and lost them both by only one and two points – we collaborated well as a team but just fell short. During our games on Saturday Bentley suffered a knee injury as he had a crash with Hudson when they were rebounding. He went to the hospital and he couldn’t play any more however was there cheering us on.
On Sunday we played two further games and we won both games comfortably. This put us in 5th place in the whole of Tasmania which is an amazing effort.
We want to thank Stephen Gillam for coaching us through three tournaments we had great fun, it was a great time and we really enjoyed ourselves.

Grade 5-6 Boys Basketball Team State Championship
The Grade 5-6 Boys Basketball team made up of Oliver D, Ryan, Oliver R, Nash, Tobias, Hayden, Lucas, Johnty and Brooklyn went to Launceston on the 4th and 5th of December to represent Burnie Primary School at the State Basketball Championships.
We played two games on the Saturday winning both which put us into the Semi Final – this was a great game unfortunately we lost by three points which meant we were to play off for third and fourth – we won this game against Cambridge which meant we finished third in the whole state which is an awesome achievement.
We would like to thank Tim (coach) and Sarah (manager) Kinch for all their help during the season, we have learnt lots and have had a great time. Also thank you to all of our parent for getting us to all the games during the three tournaments throughout the year.

Alan Hudson - Best of Schools Netball Carnival
The Grade 3/4 Team.....................By the 3/4 Netball Team
On Sunday 5 December, Burnie Primary School students participated in the Alan Hudson Best of Schools Netball Carnival.
The Grade 3/4 Team won all of their games including the Grand Final. The students demonstrated aspiration by working hard to achieve their goals. They won medals and brought back a plaque for the school.
The students in the team were Claire, Darcey, Lily, Mikayla, Millie, Rhani, Romilly and Zoey.
Grade 5/6 team....................By Brianna and Bronte
Also representing our school was the Grade 5/6 team who sadly lost the Grand Final by three points. The students in the team were Bronte, Brianna, Amarli, Sana, Jana, Paige, Eve and Sienna.
Our team used great communication skills to talk as a team and also collaborated well by sharing the ball with each other to achieve our goals.
Thank you to our amazing coaches and umpires. Without their help we would not be able to play games and learn so much at training – thank you so much
Also a big thank you to Mel Pease for organising our teams, you do so much for us and are greatly appreciated.
- Coaches: Lyn Odgers – Gr 5/6 and Alecia Rayner – Gr 3/4
- Umpires: Lisa Palmer – Gr 5/6 and Amina Keygan – Gr3/4
