We warmly welcome our new students Logan, Ethan, Latayah, Paul, McKinley and their families to Burnie Primary School.
Staff Update
Welcome to Mr Andrew Woodard and Mr Jackson Ansell who will be joining us this term. It is great to have you as part of our team. The students have enjoyed working with you both. Mrs Tameika Munday will re-join us this term. She is looking forward to providing our year 6 students with rich and engaging learning experiences. Mrs Munday comes to us from the Prep to Ten Curriculum Team and has been working as the Primary School Curriculum Lead. How lucky are we to have Tameika re-join the BPS Community!
Mrs Kerryn Duncan has resigned from her Assistant Principal position. Kerryn commenced work with us in 2022. Kerryn is a caring, patient, motivating and highly capable educator to all she has worked with, including staff and students. We will miss her… yet wish her all the best for the future.
Spotlight on the values - Introducing Morning Meetings
To kick the term off we came together as a school to review our school values. For term 2, we are focusing on the value of Respect: Establishing relationships with respect for ourselves, others, the past and the environment. Our Prep – Year 2 and Year 3-6 meetings will continue throughout the term on a fortnightly basis and provide a forum for us to celebrate our growth and achievement, to focus on our feature value and share any whole school messages. At Burnie Primary School, we are respectful learners who put in our best effort, are positive and safe. Ask your child how they show the value of respect.
Duty of Care
A friendly reminder that our school hours are from 9:00am through until 2:45pm. With staff supervision commencing at 8:30am, it is important that parents do not bring children to school before that time. It is also important that parents either collect their children at 2:45pm or arrange for them to catch the bus home/make other arrangements so that students are not left unsupervised at the end of the school day.
School Association Committee
We held our first School Association meeting for 2023 on Wednesday 29th of March.
Our School Association is an active, supportive group that consists of representatives of parents/carers, staff and community members. It is the legally constituted body that administers and manages the vast range of operations and activities that may be undertaken by our school community. Being a Committee member is a commitment that is highly valued and recognised by the school. Being on the Committee is a rewarding role, where staff, parents, community members’ skills and knowledge support the school. This contributes to helping learners succeed and provides an opportunity to be actively involved and engaged in the school. The Committee meet once or twice per term.
If you would like to provide input into our meetings, you can do so by talking with one of our committee members and/or coming along to one of our meetings. The date for our next meeting is Wednesday 31st of May.

EVERY SCHOOL DAY MATTERS
Start Term 2 right by making every school day count!
Going to school every day gives your child every chance to learn and grow and connect with their mates and teachers. It’s where bright futures start and where they’ll benefit the most. When your child goes to school every day, it helps them to:
- learn better
- find interests
- make friends
- connect with teachers
- be happier
- have a brighter future
If you’re struggling to get your child to school, help is available. Please talk to us at school about your situation.

Inside Out 4 Kids - City Mission
Over the last two years, Burnie Primary has been fortunate to have had students participate in Inside Out 4 Kids an initiative of City Mission. Inside Out 4 Kids (IO4K) is an early intervention well-being program which assists in aiding the emotional well-being of kids.
City Mission provides this program to school free of cost in the hope to assist children who may be struggling with anxiety, grief, and big emotions they have with everyday living. Children learn healthy coping strategies to manage this change. All IO4K programs are delivered by trained facilitators in a safe, confidential, and supportive environment.
Later this term, our Grade 3 students will be taking part in Emotional Literacy. This program runs for 5 weeks and focuses on children’s understanding of emotions and physiological responses, building foundations of emotional awareness of self and others, helping with self-expression, language, and regulation. There will be further information coming home with Grade 3 students next week.
Inside Out 4 Kids have some upcoming parent and community sessions. The dates and times for these are included in the attached IO4K newsletter.

Did you know? Parents and carers have the primary responsibility for detecting and treating head lice. If your child has head lice you must treat your child with a treatment recommended by the pharmacist.
Your child will be welcome to return to school as soon as treatment is started.
Anyone can have head lice - head lice do not care if your hair is clean or dirty.
- People get head lice from head-to-head contact, but head lice cannot jump or fly.
- Head lice can be hard to spot, but look out for brown or grey insects about the size of a match head that sit at the roots of your child’s hair.
- To help prevent head lice spreading we ask that you notify the school if you detect head lice in your child’s hair.
- Teach your child not to share hair bands, swimming caps or combs and brushes.
- Long hair should be braided or tied back for school.

Dear Parents and Friends,
Term Two is shaping up to be busy term for the P&F with many fundraising efforts planned. Order forms for our first lunch fundraiser ‘Pizza Lunch,’ were distributed to students last week and are due back with payment Friday 5th May. Later this term we will be holding our very popular Pie Drive, and we have locked in Sunday 2nd July at Bunnings to run the sausage sizzle.
We take this opportunity to thank you for your support with our Hot Cross Bun drive at the end of Term One, where we sold over 160 packs! Your support with this fundraiser is greatly appreciated.
Our next P&F meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday 16th May, 6.00pm at Burnie Primary School. We welcome and encourage new members, you may have children, grandchildren, know friends children, nieces, nephews or just be friends with someone who works at the school, all are welcome!
Please keep an eye out for our future fundraising efforts, meetings and need for volunteers by following our P&F Facebook page, you can scan the QR code to join.
Mrs Matthews and Mrs Hyland look forward to seeing our new and returning families for a term of fun!
