As we rapidly head towards the end of Term 3 it is a great time to reflect on what has been a year of change, new experiences and learnings. As we move into Term 4, our students will be engaging in the inevitable change in their schooling life. Our grade 6 students will fully engage in their transition to high school and the next exciting step in their learning and lives. Students from all other grades will be preparing for their transition to a new grade, new teachers and new learning opportunities. An exciting part of Term 4 is the start of our pre-kinder program for all the young people who will be attending their first year of schooling. As a school staff we will be doing all we can to ensure that your child’s transition to the next phase of their learning journey is a safe and positive one.
This week has been Fire Education Week at Burnie Primary. Craig Machen from the Tasmanian Fire Service has been at the school working with students from Prep to Grade 6 on how to keep themselves and families safe. Please take the time to have a conversation with your child around what they have learnt and the advice they have to help keep your homes safe. For further information regarding the Tasmanian Fire Service you can visit fire.tas.gov.au or ttseducation.com.au
As a sign off I would like to give a massive thank you to our cleaning staff at Burnie Primary School. The work they have undertaken and continue to carry out during this Covid-19 pandemic has been nothing short of amazing. They have worked tirelessly to keep our school clean, hygienic and your children safe. They do so with a smile on their face and a ‘can-do’ attitude. The respect our students show for our cleaning staff is a reflection of the time, kindness, effort and respect that our cleaning staff provide to the children. To Rachel, Ange, Margaret, Mel and Ann.... Thank you!

As part of our inquiry ‘Learning from the past to create preferred futures,’ we have been investigating our Burnie Primary School Logo. As part of this, we invite our Burnie Primary School community to take a photo of any image, text or reference to the Emu in and around Burnie and email it to Mr Starick. There are plenty of emus hiding in and around Burnie. Let's see how many we can find! The ‘Find an Emu’ activity will run over the school holidays until Friday 24 October.
Please send in your photos for a chance to win a special prize to be announced at the final end of year assembly. Get on the Emu hunt!
Photos can be emailed to Mr Starick using burnie.primary@education.tas.gov.au

This term Grade 1 investigated a new inquiry, called "When was I a kid?"
Our work was to look at different moments of the past and compare them to our lives as children now.
We looked at the home, transport, toys and school.
First, we looked at the 1950s and used the book “When I was a Kid” to help us research how people lived in the past.
Then we used a book called "My Folks Grew up in the 80s", along with our teacher’s memories to explore life in the 1980s. We became hooked on the song BAD and got a laugh out of some of the clothes worn during this time. We discovered that most of our parents had worn “Happy pants”!
We enjoyed watching Chloe wear Mrs William’s wedding dress from the 1980s and tried guessing which teachers were in the baby photos.
Then it was time to read a book about life in 2020 but there wasn’t one. We decided we would need to become authors and write our very own!

Grade 4 Excursion to Preminghana
Our excursion to Preminghana was a blast. We had so many things to do there. We saw a replica of an Aboriginal hut. It was huge! It nearly fitted both classes. We went on a walk to King’s Run as well. There we saw some seal hides Aboriginal women used to hunt seals and got to see some ochre.

Grade 4 Student
On Wednesday, 16th of September grade 4JM and 4H went on an excursion to Arthur River.
We left at 7:50am on the bus heading to Arthur River the bus trip was 2 hours long. Then we visited an Aboriginal hut that we got to go into, then we went to a camp fire where we were told about Aboriginal bush tucker. After that we went on a walk to the beach and we split into 2 groups, one group went on a walk up a hill and one of our tour guides told us more about Aboriginal shelters and then we swapped over. The other group got told about how women caught seals in seal hides and why sacrifice hill is called sacrifice hill, it is because the men were thrown off a hill and the women were kept but since men were gone the women also jumped off. Then we had lunch and hopped on the bus and travelled home and got back to Burnie Primary at 5:30pm.
